Bournemouth — May 15th 2012

Another good attendance with 15 members being subjected to photographs taken by Roy for possible use on this website. We soon got down to business with local member Trevor talking about his early experience with streaming music using Airport Express from his iMac. The iPod Touch and the Apple Remote App came next, followed by Airfoil to stream from the BBC iPlayer on a MacBook. However it was only with the advent of Airplay on an iPad that the exercise really became convenient enough for everyday use. Before long, using the iPlayer App and Airport Express for radio catchup convinced him  to purchase an AppleTV unit to do the same for television programmes( Apple TV )

Christopher of Solutions then gave an impressive demonstration of the Airport Express with music being streamed from the iPad to high quality external speakers upstairs. Video and still photos on the iPad were streamed wirelessly to a widescreenTV via Apple TV. Everything worked smoothly and discussion flowed. Trevor took the stand again to describe his first impressions of various TV catchup apps with  AppleTV. He also showed us a small key fob video camera, less than the size of a golf ball, which he attaches to his model planes and we saw an interesting short sequence from this - streamed from the iPad to the TV, of course.

After a well earned break for refreshments Mick showed us how to get to grips with Apple iCloud and how to prepare for the withdrawal of MobileMe services after 30th June 2012. Details are on: [Transition to iCloud]
Whilst OS Lion 10.7.2 is said to be required for iCloud Mick showed a work-around for using iCloud with Snow Leopard but in a limited way. The settings and pros and cons of iCloud were covered in detail. Mick then bravely demonstrated live, making changes to his iCal using iPad and iPhone. The almost instantaneous changes synchronised via iCloud drew a spontaneous round of applause - phew, it works! Mick has produced a pdf on this which is available on request. Christopher of Solutions was still present and able to provide us with an update on iCloud which had been made in the last 24 hours. We were all very impressed and expectations are now that we will have 'breaking news' appearing onscreen at every future meeting!

Questions and answers continued into overtime and there was still a 'buzz' in the air as the meeting closed.
