This month we were looking at two aspects of using a Mac that are not new but seem not to be widely used - at least by those attending last Wednesday. Firstly, Gordon took us through using Smart Folders in the Finder, Mail, iPhoto and iTunes to show us how they could be used to automatically collect certain items together for ease of use. We then went on to look at the differences between POP and IMAP email accounts and the advantages or hassles of using either system with both your Mac and any mobile devices (iPad etc.) that you may have. Whilst IMAP is undoubtedly the easiest, there are reasons why you might favour POP and Mick, who does use POP, explained what these might be.

Just for information, when using smart albums in iPhoto and selecting the Camera tab, this will show the cameras used to take all the photos in your library not just cameras or SD cards you may have plugged in to your computer. On my iMac there are numerous cameras listed some of them related to photos which were sent to me as e-mail attachments by my sons. iPhoto must glean this information from the EXIF data on the photo itself
