Salisbury — May 25th 2011

One of our busiest meetings - not with numbers but with content. Once we'd got inside (the rugby club had decided not to open till 8:00 as their season has finished but neglected to tell us) we used the main room instead of our normal small one.

Annie started us off by exploring the capabilities of a new slide scanner. Most of the features apply equally well to scanning documents on a flatbed so we looked at the effect of changing the scan resolution on both quality and file size and then at the different file sizes for scans using the same resolution but saving as a tiff or one of three qualities of jpeg that the software offered.

We then went on to look at using an ftp application (Transmit) to post your web site files to the host server. This developed into a general discussion of web site construction, how Google ranks sites and finally how to get the best out of searching Google. This last point will be the main theme of next month's meeting.
