Resurgam!

A very good evening at Solutions, the first for many months. Many thanks to Joe and Keith who journeyed down from Oxford to give an excellent presentation on building a web site simply and quickly using Freeway Express, a web-site building app which is easy to learn and use because it acts like a page layout program. It is more accomplished than iWeb, which is also easy to use, because it is not so limited in what it can do The demo showed how not only text and graphics can be incorporated in a web site, and moved around with ease, but also Quicktime moves and sound can be added with no more problem than drag and drop.

For more ambitious users Freeway Pro is available, and that has all the bells and whistles that you might need.

WAMUGs own Mick Burrell followed with an equally professional and very clear explanation showing how to ensure that our emails are not being rated as spam by our ISPs and being binned before they get to us, and then went on top demonstrate in his usual concise and understandable manner how it is possible to acquire a permanent email address regardless of how many changes made in the Internet Service Provider.
The turnout and enthusiasm was such that meetings will continue at Solutions. The next meeting will be on December 16th, and the subject will be (stolen from the 3Cs User group up in Luton)

“How to Avoid the Credit Crunch - by using free applications”

So please let Michael Corgan know of any free applications that you have used and found useful - or those which should be avoided!

Glad to see the attendance figures, but keep it up guys, the meeting venue depends on you.
It would be sad to see it die off again!

Yes, great news that B'mouth will continue.
Are there any new ways of promoting the meetings?

One of the best meetings at the Bournemouth venue. Excellent presentations, useful & helpful to many of those attending I guess. Good choice of subject matter because it had wide appeal. Pressure on Michael to maintain this standard, pressure on members to maintain attendance!

Re comment by Mark on promoting the meetings. It seems quite a time since 'Flyers' were distributed. We could try this again, leaving them in local libraries & also trying to tap into the local IT groups, University & Arts Centre.

Well the saying is, 'It's not over till the fat lady sings'. We arrived at Solutions, for what we thought would be the last time. What happens? Ethel Merman, makes an appearance and all is well*.

An excellent meeting, with superb demo's. Many thanks to the lads from Softpress and Mick. Also special thanks to Michael for persevering with the Bournemouth venue. I'm sure many of us would have just given up.

*If you want to know more about Ethel, ask Mick!

Thanks Terry for the Flyer link. Copies will be in the Westbourne & Bournemouth libraries tomorrow.
I hope someone can cover a wider 'drop'.

Local libraries accepted the 'Flyers' but the Arts Institute in Bournemouth University would not. Pity because they do run Computer courses there. I hope someone can find another way in these areas to spread the word about our group.

The courses they run, are there any for Macs? If so, we could be seen as direct competitors. We could cut down their income if we help their potential students for just £20 per year.
